Cape Cod Whale Stories

Our Capting has ordered the man on lookout to come down, says mebbe the Lord is taking his vengints upon us for looking for whales on the Sabbith. Hear after the lookout will not go aloft no more on the Sabbith xcept oncet every our. So ends, fine wether all day.

Monday, Janury 10 - Vilents broke out in the galley today. The men says they would not eat the potatoe barging because there was too many cockroches & other incests ect. in it, and they maid Peter White, our neegrow cook, eat it instead. So ends this day, still no whales in site.

Tuesday, Janury 11 - Peter White the cook comeplaned of panes in the abdoming & died this day 3 oclock p m. The Capting has ordered the men queschinned trying to find out who is gilty of making him eat the potatoe barging, but all hands pleed innosents. So ends, not a whale in these onwholly waters.

Wensday, Janury 12 - Fewnril sarvises was held at 11 a m for Peter White. All hands xept the lookout called on deck to witniss our last fairwell to our pore shipmate. He was laid in a box & the Capting begun to reed sourfully from the scripters after giving worning that any man what udders a disrespective word is going to git seesed up in the riggin. Suddingly the lookout calls There she blows. The 1st whale we seen on the whole of this miserble viage. The Capting went on reeding over the departid & the lookout calls There she blows and breeches. Still the Skipper is reeding & the lookout calls There she blows & breeches & belches. Then the Capting drops his book and orders the men-Heave that damed carkiss overboard and lower away. But we was too late. So ends, our won whale, the only whale we see yit-gorn.

Thursday, Janury 13 - The Capting give worning this day to all hands not to die ontill we git our first whale. No fewnril sarvises will be held. So ends, not won miserble whale to be seen.
